yacht-charter-didimThe Didim marina in yacht charter Turkey was last week the host of a race stage from the National Championship which is organized by the Turkey Sailing Federation. The stage is called the Optimist and Laser races and they took place from October 25th to October 30th.

The reason it’s called Optimist and Laser is because there are 156 optimist boats participating, as well as 102 laser boats and an additional 43 radial and 16 standard competitors. The grand total is 317 competitors and 51 officials, all of which were present last week in Didim for the race.

The event was greeted warmly by the local, which see it as a good opportunity to put their port on the map. The Didim Sailing and Yachting Club Chairman Erdal Baylan was quoted as saying: “The races prove the development Didim has accomplished in tourism in such a short space of time. Besides it shows how important the marina is in promoting Didim. This race is the most important among all water activities in Turkey.”

As an additional incentive for those who wish to travel to Didim, the local yacht club organizes a sailing training programme which has the main aim of popularizing sailing among locals and visitors alike. The courses will be given by the Beta Sailing Academy and will be split in 2 categories: Individual and Corporate. The startdate for this event is May 2012.

If you aleready have knowledge of sailing, then you should use this opportunity to practice in the waters around the Didim marina, as next year the races are also open to all licensed sailors, no matter their age.
