Famous for allegedly being the place where Ikarus landed in the sea, Göcek you’ll want to see with your own eyes to believe it exists. Together with the neighboring city of Fethiye, this is one of the most beautiful areas in yacht charter Turkey.
Yacht charter Göcek is not only a beautiful town but it’s also a major sailing hub in the region and a testament to that fact is the presence of the 4 marinas in town: Club Marina, Municipality Marina and Port Göcek Marina. A 5th marina is being constructed in order to further expand the mooring capabilities of the resort.
The reason for this popularity and the high density of marinas is the fact that yacht charter Göcek sits in a well protected bay that is surrounded by fertile hills on 3 sides, also providing some spectacular views and some impressive ancient architecture that is constantly featured on tourist brochures.
The most famous are the 2000-year-old rock tombs similar to those in Marmaris or Fethiye and that belong to the Lycian civilization. Other than that, the city had little to offer but there is plenty to be done in and around the sea and on the shores.
However, there is a benefit to the small size of the town, since all of the interesting point of attraction and likely to be found within short distances. This is the case with some of the shops, which are lined along one street crossing the whole city. Here you can find supermarkets, gift shops, clothing boutiques and, let’s not forget, yachting supplies.
The food in town can be described as eclectic since it’s an interesting mixture of international and local recipes, which rely heavily on sea food. Of course, since we’re in Turkey, there are a lot of pastry shops which sell those traditional sweets, as well as a lot of fast food joints where one can pick up a kebab or pita when in a hurry. The waterfront is a great place to go if you’re hungry since it’s packed full of restaurants and bars to fill your appetite and your time.
When it comes to nighttime entertainment, yacht charter Göcek is somewhat lacking, but if you’re really serious about spending some quality time on the town, you’re better off travelling to the neighboring Fethiye or even Dalaman.
The local sailing scene is one of the more serious in the country and to prove that, they organize here every year a prestigious international regatta at the end of May which manages to attract some serious crowds every year.
